The Court of Durrës has today suspended all the work of the urban regeneration project on Veliera Square in Durrës.
On February 16, the Administrative Court decided on a partial suspension of the work after archeological discoveries were made on the building site. In violation of this order, however, the Municipality of Durrës continued construction work, pouring concrete in the area where the discoveries had been made.
Work on the Veliera Square started in 2016, without an environmental permit. In February, Exit raised concerns about the legality of the construction work, which partially took place within the protected archeological zone of the ancient city.
