The Tirana Court has ruled Rezart Taçi not guilty of tax evasion charges against the company ARMO from 2008 to 2013.
In 2016, the Tirana Prosecution Office launched a criminal prosecution against Taçi, based on an ARMO audit for the years 2011-2013. According to the audit, Taçi owed the Albanian state €8 million in taxes.
Taçi was one of the country’s main entrepreneurs, mainly operating in oil and gas trade. In 2008, he bought the ARMO oil refining company, which he was then obligated to sell 5 years after, as a result of outstanding bank loans. During this time he sold and shut down all of his oil trade businesses.
In 2013, the Prosecution Office launched another investigation into Taçi, on charges of fraud, falsification, and theft from a foreign supplier, resulting in financial damages valued at more than €20 million. The Prosecution has refused to disclose the current state of the investigation.
