Today, President Ilir Meta decreed the appointment of three High Court members.
The candidates presented by the High Judicial Council (KLGj) from among the prominent lawyers were:
- Ervin Pupa, head of Albanian Chamber of Advocacy
- Ilir Panda, former Minister of Justice and deputy chair of KLGj’s predecessor, KLD.
- Sokol Sadushi, head of the School of Magistrates
The dismissals and resignations that followed the vetting process, rendered the High Court dysfunctional in March 2019. In July 2019, KLGj opened the competition to choose three members of the High Court. 22 candidates entered.
The High Court consists of 19 members. They are appointed from the ranks of judges with more than 10 years of experience and lawyers with more than 15.
The appointment of Pupa, Panda, and Sadushi brings the number of High Court members to four. Its only current member is Ardian Dvorani, who is awaiting replacement after his term ended six years ago.
