As of this morning, these are the rules and restrictions in place in regards to movement throughout the whole of Albania during the Coronavirus crisis. This list will be amended and updated as we have more information.
People are able to leave their homes to visit grocery shops and pharmacies between the hours of 5 am-1 pm. After 1 pm a curfew will be enforced and people are required to remain inside at all times. Failure to comply will result in a fine of 10,000 ALL. This schedule is in place until further notice.
Other shops that will be open include gas stations, mail services, vets, hotels and freight transport. Shopping centres, bars, restaurants, any shop that doesn’t sell food, spas and wellness centres, and motor shops will be closed.
During the hours of 5 am-1 pm movement with private vehicles is not allowed. If you need to move for an emergency or any other reason, you may apply via this website to get confirmation. Only then are you allowed to move, ensuring you carry the confirmation with you. Failure to comply will result in a fine and possible confiscation of driving license.
The only vehicles that are able to travel during curfew are police, armed forces, freight transport, government and state vehicles, authorised media personnel, food delivery vehicles and those with special authorisation.
If you have a medical emergency or are experiencing symptoms of Coronavirus, you must remain at home and call 127.
If you have an emergency during curfew and need to leave the house for medicine or similar essential items, you must call 112 or 129 first to speak with the police.
Pharmacies, banks, and shops selling food will remain open during the time of movement. When visiting them, people are required to observe a minimum distance of 1.5 metres between other people. Gloves are advised, masks are discretionary. Police and army will be monitoring lines in shops to maintain order and social distancing.
Some shops are providing delivery services although Conad and Spar have suspended these for now. Baboon food delivery continues to operate with a few restaurants.
Going for walks, socialising in public, congregating in public areas is not allowed and can be punished by a 10,000 ALL fine. Authorities have asked that people walk from home to the shops, and back without stopping.
- Walking, hiking, sporting activities or anything not related to purchasing food or medicine, is not allowed during the periods of movement.
Tirana International Airport is closed until further notice with the exception of the Air Albania flight to and from Istanbul which is still operating at the time of writing.
All land and sea borders are closed until further notice.
All schools and educational institutions are closed until 3 April. Further announcements are expected.
Authorities have asked that people shop responsibly, avoid hoarding and try to limit the number of times they go out during the week.
The Prime Minister has asked that children and the elderly remain at home.
