US Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer has called on the Department of State to support the Albanian diaspora’s demands to vote in Albania’s elections.
In a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Schumer speaks of his experience as a senator from New York, one of the states with the largest Albanian-American community in the US
According to Voice of America, Schumer writes that “in accordance with the practices observed in over 150 countries, including almost all European countries, Albanian-Americans must have the right to participate in elections from their countries of residence.”
Diaspora voting is not part of the agreement reached the Albanian Political Council for Electoral Reform, approved on June 5.
