Danish Government to Loan Albania 30 Respirators

The Danish government has lent Albania 30 respirators to treat patients with Covid-19.

According to Danish media, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the respirators will be given to Albania for temporary use, as in Denmark they are not needed at the moment.

The government’s decision was taken after consultations with the task force that is monitoring the pandemic in Denmark.

The respirators are ChenWei brand and comply with EU directives.

210 coronavirus patients are currently being treated in the two Covid hospitals in Tirana, of which 17 are in intensive care and 8 are intubated.

The number of patients is actually higher because those patients who are negative for Covid but are still suffering symptoms are being treated in hospitals, as well as those who test negative but suffer from lung problems caused by Covid.

Shefqet Ndroqi Hospital, Covid 2 has expressed several times the need for respirators. Former MP and entrepreneur Agron Shehaj and Albanian actress Zhaklina Dhimojani responded to the doctors’ call.

In April, the Albanian government said they had started procedures for the purchase of 54 respirators. They have not provided any update on these purchases and it’s not known if any have actually arrived in Albania.
