Albanian Opposition Calls for Three Immediate Measures to Protect Citizens

Head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha has called for immediate measures as a result of the increased number of cases of COVID-19. He said there is a need for a detailed plan of action to prevent the rapid spread of the virus.

Basha highlighted three immediate measures:

— To announce a state of natural disaster through the Republic of Albania. Close all call centers, freight forwarders, and other businesses with large numbers of employees in a confined space that have a high risk of spreading the virus.

— Develop a detailed action plan with well-defined deadlines on how businesses operate that are essential to the lives of citizens.

— Implement immediate measures laid out by the state of emergency that guarantee the living conditions for all citizens, who due to not being able to work, cannot meet their daily needs.

The Opposition leader added that we must do our utmost to overcome the situation. Citizens should remain at home and the government should provide them with security to support their livelihoods he said.

Last week, the government presented an economic plan to support citizens and businesses to withstand the measures taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, which the opposition has considered insufficient.
