Albanian Police Has Issued €230,000 in Fines to Violators of Coronavirus Lockdown

The government has issued a combined €230,000 in fines to 1,431 people for violating movement and business activity restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting from March 16, when the restrictions were first put into place, the police have issued, on average, €20,000 worth of fines per day.

1431 people have been fined for moving in the streets, being in parks, and conducting business activities outside the daily period designated by the government, whereas 600 others had their driving licenses suspended for three years.

The Albanian government has put strict measures into place in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Until March 20, movement was only allowed for 6 hours a day, from 6am to 10am, and from 4pm to 6pm.

From March 20, movement has only been allowed from 5am to 1pm, from Monday to Saturday. No one has been allowed to go outside on Sunday.

Starting from Monday, March 30, restrictions will be tightened further, with only one person per family allowed to be out for only one hour during the times movement is permitted.

186 infected cases have been found in Albania so far, 8 of which have ended in death and 31 of which have recovered.
