Albanian Tourism Minister Outlines Some Plans for The Summer Season

The Minister of Tourism Blendi Klosi clarified today some of the rules under which the tourist season will operate this year.

In an interview with ABC News, the minister said maintaining physical distances between holidaymakers is most important:

“There is an agreement to increase the distances of sunbeds in the beach areas. There will be only 4 people in 10 square meters. ”

Also, the holidays and gatherings of many vacationers in a small space will be banned.

Regarding the arrival of foreign tourists, Klosi said that the ministry is working with several countries and operators that have contracts ready for Albania so that bookings are not cancelled.

Tourists can come by charter flights and be accommodated in hotels while respecting all physical distancing measures.

For tourists from the region, Klosi said that they will be able to come to Albania through land borders.

Despite the measures announced by the Minister, the government still does not seem to have a concrete plan to help tourism, the most affected sector of the economy by the coronavirus detention measures, according to the  forecasts of the International Monetary Fund.

In an interview with News24 on April 20, Prime Minister Rama said :

“I have no answer for the tourism sector because it is a situation where no one knows what is coming back. We don’t know how it will be done, but in May we will clarify. “
