Balkan Survivors to Hold Rally in New York against Serbia’s Unpunished Wartime Rapes

On October 28, a rally will be held in New York to demand justice for the victims and survivors of unpunished Serbian wartime rapes in Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia.

Organized by survivor Vasfije Krasniqi under the name of her organization, Rally for Her Justice, the rally will take place in front of the Serbian consulate in New York.

During the Kosovo war, Serbians raped at least 20,000 Albanians, including women, girls, and some men.

However, the vast majority of these crimes remain unpunished. In Kosovo, the Basic Court of Prishtina issued its first ever conviction for wartime rape in July 2021, more than 20 years after the Kosovo War ended.

The rally has received widespread support, including from US congressmen and Kosovo-born pop singer Dua Lipa.

A rally will also be held before the Serbian embassy in Tirana at 6 p.m., to show solidarity with victims and survivors.
