COVID-19 Patient Who Attempted Suicide at State Hospital Passes Away

A 69-year-old man who attempted suicide at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Tirana yesterday, passed away this morning.

The man, who had jumped from an upper floor of the building was being cared for by medical staff. Sadly, this morning as he was undergoing treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

He was suffering from COVID-19 but there is no public information on his condition at the time of his suicide attempt.

Tirana prosecutor’s office will investigate.

This is the fourth suicide at state COVID-19 hospitals since August. There has also been at least one reported attempt.

The Ministry of Health has not replied to Exit’s questions on measures being taken to provide mental health assistance, monitoring, support or treatment to patients.
