COVID-19 Tests for Active Cases Now Allowed in Private Hospitals

The Albanian Technical Committee has approved a decision which will allow private hospitals and laboratories to carry out COVID-19 testing.

Some days ago, approval was given for serological testing that shows whether a person has had the virus in the past. This new decision will show whether someone has the virus at that exact moment.

According to the Ministry of Health, the testing will only be allowed for individuals who have a formal request for the test as a condition for them being able to travel to another country. For example, countries that require a recent negative test before allowing entry.

Prior to these two decisions, individuals could only get tested by the State if they displayed symptoms of the virus or were believed to have been in contact with someone who was confirmed as infected.

No list of hospitals offering the test has been provided as of yet.
