Albanian doctors today received their second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
The vaccination programme started this morning at the Air Albania stadium in Tirana.
Yesterday, 1170 doses of the vaccine arrived in Tirana, much less than the agreed amount. The government had bought 500,000 doses of the vaccine, enough to vaccinate around 10% of the population. Delays in production of the vaccine mean that now, a further 41,000 doses will arrive between February and Autumn.
The vaccination programme started on January 11 after 975 doses were donated to Albania by an ‘anonymous’ EU Member State.
Prime Minister Edi Rama also received a second dose of the vaccine this morning. He had previously said that politicians and officials will not be able to skip the queue for vaccination.
