Citizens from Durrës, civil society activists, and archeologists protested yesterday against the “Veliera” urban renewal plan, and the destruction of cultural heritage and the city’s identity.
The construction works for the urban renewal plan on the Veliera Square in Durrës have been temporarily halted, after the foundations of several centuries-old construction were found during excavation works.
If the Veliera Square project would be implemented, it would intervene into a legally protected archeological and permanently damage the cultural heritage of the city.\
