EU Delegation Calls on Political Parties to Ensure MP Candidates Have Integrity

The Delegation of the European Union in Tirana has appealed to the party leaders to offer the citizens lists of MP candidates who have integrity.

In a Facebook post , the delegation said that “party leaders have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure that the lists are composed of candidates with integrity.”

The delegation stressed that Albanian citizens deserve lawmakers who meet high standards of integrity and who will bring Albania closer to the EU.

In recent days, even US Ambassador Yuri Kim has stressed that party leaders should not include criminals on part lists. She stressed that such a request is provided by law and is what is expected from a NATO ally and EU aspirant.

Prime Minister Rama responded to the ambassador’s calls by saying that the self-declaration of the candidates for deputies is a personal responsibility and not of the party. He added that it’s not her place to remind him of his duty.

He also criticized the British Ambassador and questioned his interest and involvement in the affairs of Albania.
