Ex-Mayor Accused of Illegal Appropriation Faces 3 Year Prison Sentence

Case prosecutors have asked for a 3 year prison sentence for former Lezha mayor Fran Frrokaj, who stands accused of illegal appropriation of land in Shëngjin.

The Prosecution Office recommended a combined 43 years in prison for 19 defendants, including 2 years for former deputy mayor Enver Hafizi and 4 years for former head of district Gjok Ndoka.

They stand accused of collaborating to abuse their offices, and falsify documentation to expropriate and illegally appropriate 285 thousand square meters worth of land.

Investigations into this case began in 2017, following a suit from someone who claims his property has been registered under other people’s names. The Lezha Prosecution Office immediately confiscated the property and launched an investigation.
