Nisma Thurje, a civil society organization, has filed a report with the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) against the Fier waste incinerator.
During a press conference, Pano Soko appealed to SPAK to begin investigations into the matter and accused the government of being involved in the falsification of ownership documentation for the land on which the Fier waste incinerator will be built.
An Albanian businessman with ties to the incinerators, Klodian Mërtiri, also known as Mirel Mërtiri, is currently wanted in Zimbabwe for corruption involving a €60 million tender for coronavirus medical equipment. In relation to this case, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health was arrested on June 19.
In Zimbabwe, Mërtiri went by the false name Ilir Dedja. Via Drax International, a company first registered in Switzerland only two months ago and represented by local businessman Delish Nguwaya, Dedja sold the Zimbabwean government medical and personal protection equipment at 10 times the market price.
On June 22, Ora News noted that the person known as Ilir Dedja, involved in the €60 million scandal, does not have the same date of birth as the businessman tied to the incinerators Klodian Mërtiri.
