Former Socialist Party Mayor Arrested with 20kg Cocaine in Italy

The former Socialist Party mayor of Vore, Agim Kajmaku has been arrested in Italy for trafficking 20kg of drugs worth some EUR 1 million.

Kajmaku was arrested on 27 May in possession of 20 kg of cocaine in the San Benedeto del Tronto area of Italy. It is reported he had concealed the drugs inside vases used for displaying flowers.

In the local elections of 2019, Kajmaku won the position of mayor in Vore, just outside the capital of Tirana. However, it was discovered he had lied on his decriminalisation form, failing to declare a criminal record in Greece.

Those running for public office are required to declare any criminal record in any country, before assuming a position. Failure to do so honestly or correctly is a criminal offence.

He was also charged with the forgery of stamps, forgery of official documents, and execution of office after his issuance.

Kajmaku was then declared “on the run” and the police claimed they were unable to locate him. However, Exit managed to find him three times a week, in a cafe in Vore next to his home, in a cafe in Tirana and taking a walk near the city’s police directorate.

After Exit’s revelation, the police arrested him and then released him. He has since gone on to allegedly traffic drugs in Italy.

While he was wanted by the authorities, the government party awarded his wife with a EUR 50,000 tender to maintain flower beds at Mother Theresa hospital.

His wife, Merita Kajmaku passed ownership of his company Kajmaku shpk just two weeks after the election. The company is involved in flower cultivation and other forms of horticulture.
