Four Arrested for Rinas Robbery

Today the State Police and the Prosecution revealed the plot of the robbery of $3.2 million near Tirana International Airport on February 9. Two main factors contributed to the arrest of the four criminals, namely the capture of Fation Xhyliu, a former private security guard who had stayed only a few meters away from the place where the robbery was committed, and the tracking of the vehicle with which the robbers escaped after burning the cars used for the robbery.

Eavesdropping

On February 11, the police arrested Xhyliu after he was spotted close to the place where the robbery had taken place. The former private security guard was brought to the police commissariat together with his brother. After refusing to acknowledge his involvement in the robbery to the investigators, he was left with his brother in a cell, on which the investigators were eavesdropping. It appears that Xhyliu talked to his brother about the robbery.

The escape vehicle

Another important fact for the investigation has been the tracking of the escape vehicle used by the robbers. The police checked all the security cameras placed in the area, and concluded that the authors had fled into the direction of Vora.

The four people arrested in the police action of yesterday in Vora and Fushë-Preza are Neim Avdylaj (former soldier), Dition Memlikaj (former soldier), and Ernest Kupe (businessman). From the evidence gathered it appears that the same group of people was also responsible for two other robberies in the area, on February 9, 2014 and December 3, 2015. During the police action a large amount of cash money was, which is suspected to be related to those two earlier robberies.

Meanwhile, the police has identified two other people involved in the recent robbery: Admir Murataj, considered to be the leader of the group, and Admir Ç. The police assumes they are still in the country and continues its work to locate them.
