In a sign of support and solidarity, the Greek foreign minister Nikos Dendias visited Albania this afternoon, in the aftermath of Tuesday’s deadly earthquake that has left 21 dead so far. He accompanies two search and rescue teams that have arrived to assist Albania’s efforts to rescue and recover.
Minister Dendias met with President Meta. After the meeting he stated for the media that the Greek people share the grief with Albania, and offered his country’s support.
“Unfortunately, Greece has a long experience with earthquakes, and two defense and civil protection teams are here to help you. We are ready to help you with anything you might need.”
President Meta stated that the situation in Albania is tragic, and that hoped it could serve to further raise awareness in the EU to confront such situations in solidarity, while trying to minimize casualties and damage.
