The Albanian Ministry of Health suspects that the Delta variant of COVID-19 may have reached Albania already.
Two people, one in Gjirokaster and the other in Permet, were identified with symptoms of the variant. Their test results have been sent to Germany for further analysis.
In a Facebook post, Health Minister Ogerta Manasterliu stated that health institutions across the country have been put on high alert following an analysis conducted by the Institute of Public Health and given the spread of the variant across the region.
She also urged citizens to not neglect the vaccination process.
The spread of COVID-19 in Albania has slowed down over the past months, according to official government statistics.
Lockdown measures have been eased and international travelers to Albania do not require proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter the country.
