The Health Service Workers’ Union has announced a protest in front of the Mother Teresa Hospital over the dismissal of doctor Ilir Allkja.
The union says that the dismissal of the doctor was done for political reasons and at a time when the country is suffering a shortage of medical staff.
In a post on Facebook, the union said the protest will take place today at 10 am.
“In a situation when the whole world is in crisis for medical staff, Albania, this small country with a lack of health personnel has the luxury of firing a doctor for political reasons. Anyone who feels they can join a protest at 10:00 am in the square in front of Mother Teresa Hospital against such decisions and in support of health staff working in exhausting, selfless conditions is welcome.”
On the morning of Wednesday, December 30, QSUT fired Dr Allkja for ‘violating the Code of Ethics’.
According to an official document, the director of QSUT Enkelejd Joti argued that the doctor has seriously violated ethics by spreading untrue information.
Since March 2020, Dr Allkja has consistently denounced the lack of protective equipment for doctors on the front line and poor conditions in hospitals.
