KLP Starts Interviews of SPAK Candidates

Next week the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) will start interviewing the 22 prosecutor candidates for the Special Prosecution Office, also known as SPAK.

On April 5, the KLP announced a list of 25 candidates. In the meantime, 2 of them, Eugen Beci and Shkëlzen Cena have been dismissed by the Independent Qualification Commission (KPK) with a final decision, while Vatë Staka was elected as member of KLP on April 11.

Of the 22 remaining candidates, only Ened Nakuçi and Edvin Kondili have received a final verdict from the vetting institutions. Appeals are currently pending at the Special Appeal Chamber against the confirmations of Besnik Muçi and Donika Prela.

According to KLP regulations, only prosecutors confirmed with final verdict by the vetting institutions can be promoted to SPAK. SPAK will become functional once at least 10 prosecutors have been promoted by the KLP.
