The Basic Prosecution Office of Peja has identified and is investigating two Serbian nationals who were in the vicinity of the municipality of Deçan a few days before the poisoning of more than 1,500 Kosovo citizens through the contamination of the water supply system.
In a statement for media, the Prosecution said they are investigating whether the two men were involved with the situation after the Kosovo Intelligence Agency helped identify them using security camera footage.
Earlier this week, Serbian President Aleksander Vucic had also mentioned being aware of the two men’s presence and movement in Kosovo.
More than 1,500 people in the municipality of Deçan showed symptoms of poisoning last week and authorities suspected that the water supply may have been contaminated.
On Friday, the Kosovo National Institute of Public Health (IKSHPK) announced that the water in the village of Drenoc, in the municipality of Deçan, was infected with E. coli and other bacteria that made the water “undrinkable.”
In their official statement for media, IKSHPK said that the water samples taken from the broader Deçan region on July 13, show signs of “nonpathological bacteria” that “may indicate that potable water is contaminated.”
However, the Institute has declared the water “undrinkable” only for the village of Drenoc so far.
