Minister of Education Announces Raises for Teachers in Disregard of Election Regulations

Albanian Minister of Education Evis Kushi has announced that teachers’ salaries will increase by 15% in 2021.

Kushi made the news public via a Facebook post, thanking teachers for their “tireless work, dedication and sacrifices”.

However, the Ministry of Education’s decision to increase salaries for teachers seems to run counter to the Central Election Committee’s (KQZ) decision stipulating that ‘propaganda’ activities of the government using state resources would be banned four months prior to the general election in April.

Article 3, point 3, of the KQZ decision states that acts mandating salary increases, among other things, are prohibited four months before the general elections.
