Prosecution Requires Finger Prints of Deputies and Mayors, Confiscates KQZ Documentation

The General Prosecution has required the 5 deputies and 3 mayors who are currently being investigated for violating the decriminalization law to register their finger prints. The Prosecution has given the official 5 days to direct themselves to the Scientific Institute of the Police to have their finger prints taken. Afterwards, these will be compared with the documentation in possession of the Prosecution. The five deputies are: Ymer Mamo (PDIU), Aqif Rakipi (PDIU), Mhill Fufi (former PD), Artan Gaçi (PS), and Ledion Rehovica (PS). The three mayors are: Eduard Kapri (PD) of Pogradec, Tërmet Peçi (PS) of Tepelena, and Adriatik Zotkaj (PS) of Poliçan.

KQZ under investigation

The Prosecution has also confiscated all the documentation of the Central Election Commission (KQZ) pertaining to the decriminalization process. Several officers of the court police secured the documentation in the offices of the KQZ.

According to the Prosecution the KQZ has committed several violations of the decriminalization law. The documentation handed in by the KQZ to the Prosecution does not list an answer of Deputy Armando Prenga to the question whether he has been convicted before. However, this particular deputy has been convicted in Italy for theft and fake identity, while the Court in Kurbin sentenced him for the falsification of documents. Another accusation against the KQZ is that they accepted self-declaration forms after the legally prescribed deadline in the case of one deputy and two mayors.

This weekend, the national media reported that Prenga used around 10 different false names in Italy. The Prosecution has demanded the removal of his mandate. However, the KQZ has stated through a spokesperson that Prenga, as well as several others, runs no such risk and that all the legal procedures have been followed.
