Following the government’s decision to close all nightclubs, lounges and bars with live music in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19, singers and entertainers that make their livings from such venues protested last night.
Gathering in front of the Prime Minister’s office, they also expressed dissatisfaction with the prohibition of music after 20:00.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association said they will protest against the decision today at 12:00. According to the announcement, they asked that the government instead impose additional distancing measures and increase monitoring to make sure the rules are followed. Many owners are facing bankruptcy and this latest closure could result in permanent closures.
They called the decision “absurd” and argued that hospitals are also a centre of the spread of infection.
Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted to the news, stating it was “inconceivable” that they were angry because nightclubs should have remained closed anyway. They were not included in the lifting of restrictions in June.
