Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that he is in Istanbul to receive other doses of vaccines against COVID-19.
Rama wrote on a Twitter post “We will succeed, if we don’t succeed, no one else can. In Istanbul for many more vaccines”.
The Albanian authorities have signed a deal with a Turkish company to be provided with the Chinese Sinovac vaccine. They also approved a normative act to receive anti-COVID vaccines from China, on Tuesday.
According to the act, the Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu and the Minister of State for Reconstruction, Arben Ahmetaj will be responsible for receiving the supply of vaccines.
Last week, the government decided to enter negotiations with any company that could provide any COVID-19 vaccine approved in the country of origin. Two weeks ago, the government opened the way for any vaccine approved in the country of origin to arrive in Albania.
Meanwhile, Albania received 10,000 doses of the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine on Monday. So far, Sputnik V, Sinopharm, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca are being administered in the country. Priority groups that have been vaccinated so far include medical staff, people over 80, and teachers, including foreign teaching staff in private schools.
