Seven officials at the Agency for Agricultural Development within the Ministry of Agriculture of Kosovo were arrested during a police operation on Wednesday.
Kosovo Police has not provided any details yet, although reports allege that the officials were arrested under suspicions they have misused agricultural subsidies.
Ten officials from the same state agency were arrested in February and accused of bribery and abuse of authority.
About EUR 400,000, as well as several cars and laptops were confiscated at the time. Agim Nuha, the head of the agency, was among the arrested.
This morning, Minister of Justice of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu stated that officials who have been abusing their posts and illegally enriching themselves will be held accountable.
“I congratulate the institutions for their work on the case of misuse of subsidies. Abusers will sooner or later be brought to justice! The rule of law has no alternative,” she wrote on Facebook.
The operation is ongoing.
