The Central Election Commission (KQZ) voted unanimously to grant the seat vacated by former Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri to Spartak Braho, following the Socialist Party’s MP list for the Tirana municipality.
Saimir Tahiri resigned as MP a week ago, after continuous pressure from the German Bundestag that made his arrest a condition for opening EU accession negotiations.
Former Minister of Interior Affairs Tahiri stands accused, for several months, of being involved with the Habilaj gang, a drug trafficking gang operating in Italy and Albania. He has been recently placed under house arrest.
