Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Asked to Investigate Head of Transport

Civil society organization Nisma Thurje has asked the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) to investigate Motor Vehicle Services (DPShTRr) head Blendi Gonxhe for abuse of duty and exerting illegal influence.

In a press statement, Nisma representatives claimed that during the last 5 years, Gonxhe’s company Albarend, has received 200 million ALL from the state.

Nisma Thurje also claims that a company called ATD, a partner of Gonxhe’s company, has received €6 million from the state budget in the past 6 years. They also claim that this company is a cover used by Gonxhe to profit off public funds.

To illustrate, the organization’s representative said that the money given to Gonxhe’s company via “corrupt tenders” could have been used to purchase a helicopter for the Gjirokastra hospital, an investment that could have helped avoid the tragedy that took place a few days ago in Kakavija, when a 10-year-old was killed by a speeding ambulance.
