The police have arrested two people and are searching for another, accused of smuggling migrants.
The arrest was made on the Maliq-Lozhan road, as the alleged smugglers were bringing 8 migrants to Tirana.
Albania seems to have lately become a key transit link in Syrian and Palestinian migrants’ route to the EU.
Police arrests indicate that Korça-Tirana-Shkodra is the main route used by smugglers, who usually use Kukës as an exit point to Kosovo, to then go to Montenegro.
A few days ago, deputy Minister of the Interior Rovena Voda announced that the government was working towards harsher penalties for migrant smugglers, and easier asylum application procedures in Albania.
