UNESCO Includes Two Albanian Rivers on International Heritage List

During a meeting on July 7, the Committee for International Heritage of the UNESCO has decided expand the list of international heritage with a number of ancient oak tree forests.

The expansion included to rivers in Albania, the Gash in Tropoja and Rrajca in Përrenjas on the International Heritage List. These zones host the last wild forests left in the country. The river Gash had already been declared protected zone in 1996, and includes the glacial like of Dobërdol and Sylbica.

Also the Rrajca river is a protected zone, which also includes several glacial lakes.
