A large fire has broken out in the Salaria area of Tepelena in the South of Albania.
The fire which has been described as “widespread” is suspected to have engulfed huge swathes of farmland as well as bush and forest. According to the media, firefighters have been unable to access the fire to take action, due to difficult terrain.
Since July, forest fires have plagued Albania from north to south. Thousands of hectares have been affected and countless olive trees and fruit trees have been destroyed.
Authorities have said they believe that most of the fires have been started on purpose, some with the intention of clearing land for development and construction.
