Macron Proposes International Albanian Solidarity Conference after Devastating Quake

French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed an international conference to help Albania’s earthquake relief effort, Le Figaro reports.

On Wednesday, speaking after the NATO summit in London, Macron said “we need a solidarity conference with Albania”. He added that France could host the conference, which will aim to mobilize “both public and private partners” to “organize the reconstruction.”

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Albania on November 26 left 51 dead, about 900 injured, some 5,000 homeless and thousands of building damaged.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also attended the NATO summit yesterday, after which he said the Albanian delegation had provided leaders with information about the earthquake, while he had personally “emotionally involved leaders” in the situation.
