47 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, the highest daily number recorded in Albania since May 14.
Albania saw a steady decline in case numbers over June and July, but the trend was reversed last week when numbers began to climb. Wednesday recorded also the first COVID-related death in a month.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 355 active COVID-19 cases in the country, with 18 people requiring hospital care.
This surge comes a few days after the presence of the Delta Variant was confirmed in Albania.
The Institute of Public Health relayed the numbers in a press conference earlier this week, where it also specified that they do not expect the current lockdown measures to change.
Curfew will continue to be from midnight to 6 a.m., and masks are not mandatory in most environments. Foreign travelers can enter Albania freely, without needing to provide a negative COVID-19 test.
Some 512,625 Albanians have been fully vaccinated, while more than 1,1 million doses of the vaccine have been administered to date.
August will be an open vaccination month and everyone over 18 can receive a vaccine by signing up on e-Albania or bringing an ID or resident permit to the vaccination center.
