President Announces Second Call for Replacement of Constitutional Court Judge

President Ilir Meta has announced today the second call for the replacement of Judge Besnik Imeraj in the Constitutional Court.

In the first call on 7 February 2018 the KED did not qualify any candidate.

Yesterday, the Assembly opened the procedure for the replacement of the former member of the Constitutional Court, Fatos Lulo.

On the official website, the Assembly made public the criteria to apply as well as the required documentation. Candidates have until 13 October to apply.

This announcement came after the Judicial Appointments Council failed to qualify at least three candidates as required by law, instead qualifying only 1.

The reopening of the race from the beginning postpones for several more months the establishment of the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court is left with 4 out of 9 members and does not have the necessary quorum to make decisions.

Despite the promises of the Minister of Justice, the Constitutional Court will not be formed within this year.
